Description of the wine Pinot Gris Heimbourg 2023
The Heimbourg of Turckheim covers a small area of 7.5 ha and the Domaine Zind-Humbrecht owns 4.5 ha. This steep terroir has been partly abandoned in the post war period due to the difficulty of working these slopes, especially on the upper part of the cru where we planted the Pinot-Gris. These vines overlook the Clos Jebsal and Brand just opposite, and receive more sunshine hours in the evening, especially during the ripening period in August/September. The Oligocene limestone, even more outcropping on the upper part of the hill, gives this grape variety a firm structure. Like the Rotenberg, but with a little more sunshine, Heimbourg is often distinguished by a more intense fruity aroma. This terroir will have benefited from the dry climatic conditions of the vintage and produced magnificent grapes in 2023 (the year of the Pinots!). A sustained fermentation produced a dry wine which stayed on total lees in a young oak cask until bottling.

Tasting notes
01/2025: pale golden yellow colour. The nose is already well established and reveals an aromatic array of ripe white fruits associated with complex lees-ageing aromatics (toasted, nuts, grilled aromas...). This wine will continue to open with time but soon after it was bottled it started to reveal its potential. The palate is sustained, elegant, without excess power. We find a physiological maturity in the structure of the wine which shows a ripe and fresh acidity on the finish. The Heimbourg 2023 is delicious!

The Heimbourg of Turckheim
The wines produced on the Heimbourg are rich, opulent, often spicy and can include noble rot. The slower ripening of the grapes often produces wines that are aromatically expressive from a young age, contrary to its neighbour the Clos Jebsal with whom we have to show patience.
