Description of the wine Riesling Grand Cru Brand 2023
As its name suggests (Brand means burning), this Grand Cru is a solar terroir. The two-mica granite absorbs all the solar energy during the day to restore it at night and deep into the soil, and its position at the exit of the valley on a steep southern slope guarantees long sunshine hours. The wines of Brand are demonstrative, flamboyant, sparkling with energy, which is are typical characteristics of granite soils. This freshness comes from the fact that the decomposing granite produces fine elements (clays) which will migrate deep into the fractured rock. These fine elements, once colonized by the roots, provide minerality and water consistency, especially visible on the old vines. The Brand produces ripe but balanced Rieslings with a straightforwardness and acidity that can surprise. This is probably why this terroir often stood out in the old literature of the region as one of the best terroirs in Alsace.

Tasting notes
01/2025: Pale golden yellow colour. The nose is already very expressive, revealing a complex aromatic palette of medicinal plants, ripe citrus fruits (bergamot) and an undeniable mineral touch. The attack is lively, precise and dynamic. The granite brings a beautiful energy and straightness to the wine. The wine finishes very dry and reveals lovely noble tannins that reinforce the vertical structure of this wine. This 2023 vintage is salivating and precise and will age well.

The Brand Grand Cru of Turckheim
In the Brand, this variety acquires finesse and elegance (floral and fruit aromas) without ever becoming coarse or too heavy. The Brand always surprises by the precocity of its wines, but whilst expressive young they also have a great ability to age. The nature of this terroir makes it easy to obtain an optimal ripeness whilst retaining a fine acidity
