Description of the wine Riesling Clos Häuserer 2023

Clos Häuserer is located at the foot of the Grand Hengst on the village of Wintzenheim. Planted and created by Léonard Humbrecht in 1973, it takes its name from the rural path bordering it "Häusererweg" or the path that leads to the houses, certainly referring to the ancient 6th century Roman colonies located nearby. The Riesling grows here on a limestone substrate from the Oligocene covered by a thick layer (1 to 1.5m) of calcareous marl. This deep soil warms up slowly, has an extraordinary water reserve and allows the roots of the vines to dive deep. It is normal to find in the wines of this Clos a significant acidity whatever the vintage. Unlike most Riesling in 2023, the Clos Häuserer did not suffer during flowering and the 2023 harvest was magnificent. Slow fermentation in traditional old oak foudres with ageing on total lees until bottling.

Tasting notes

01/2025: intense pale-yellow colour. The nose is still on its reserve but quickly opens up on a classic expression of citrus, stones, mineral. Magnificent precision and tension, the wine coats the palate to finish on a saline touch where bitters and acidity give a very dry style. At this stage of its evolution, still very young, this wine impresses more on the palate than on the nose. It will show a beautiful evolution over time and this 2023 vintage will deserve a little ageing to appreciate its full potential.
