Description of the wine Riesling Heimbourg 2023
The Heimbourg de Turckheim single vineyard is facing the Grand Cru Brand, on a steep southwest to west slope. The sun illuminates the west-facing plots late in the morning but on the other hand they receive more sunshine hours in the evening. The marl-calcareous-sandstone substrate of the Oligocene is here composed of limestone pebbles enclosed in a red calcareous sandstone, rich in iron. The soils are shallow, and the bedrock is almost outcropping, but fractured, which allows the roots to plunge. Although coming from a very calcareous terroir, the Heimbourg wines express a certain delicacy and aromatic openness, probably the result of late sunshine in the evening. It is a small great terroir of Turckheim! In 2023, the Riesling suffered from some coulure and therefore the volume produced is low. The grapes were however magnificent, very healthy, and produced a dry wine after a long fermentation.

Tasting notes
01/2025: pale yellow colour. The nose is still on its reserve, expressing aromas of wet stones, a strong minerality or even complex reduction. Very quickly we find a citrus, anise, liquorice, menthol framework… The texture of the mouth is precise and lively. The acidity brings a touch of severity on the attack but the wine reveals a juicy and pleasant finish, with a beautiful salivation. A racy wine that will keep well!

The Heimbourg of Turckheim
The wines produced on the Heimbourg are rich, opulent, often spicy and can include noble rot. The slower ripening of the grapes often produces wines that are aromatically expressive from a young age, contrary to its neighbour the Clos Jebsal with whom we have to show patience.
