Description of the wine Muscat Grand Cru Goldert 2023
Goldert is an Oolithic limestone terroir, facing east on a gentle slope, just north of the village of Gueberschwihr. Muscat grape varieties (especially Muscat Petit Grain here) have always been present on this Grand Cru. Very few terroirs in Alsace have really managed to acquire a strong reputation with this grape variety, but in these rare situations, Muscat is radiant with complexity. So much so that in 2019 we decided to make it the only grape variety on this Grand Cru. The exposure to the east (less exposed to the sun) and the depth of the soil (cold) make it possible to regularly obtain wines that have a lighter alcohol and therefore have the capacity to finish on a very dry balance. It is a terroir which also allows for extraordinary ageing capacity. The oldest wines in the estate's wine library are made from this grape variety on this Grand Cru.

Tasting notes
08/2024: Bright pale-yellow colour. Often austere and closed in its youth, the 2023 vintage is exuberant ! The nose is intense with an aromatic of boxwood, ripe yellow fruits, light menthol. The nose suggests a rich, even round mouth, but it is quite the opposite. The combination of noble tannins (amers) and acidity gives this Goldert a strict, precise texture, with a very dry, lace-like finish. The minerality of this terroir imposes itself on the palate and the aromatic power is almost forgotten. Goldert is a magnificent table wine that will pair with dishes that need an intense aromatic and a strict and tight palate.

The Goldert Grand Cru of Gueberschwihr
The Goldert of Gueberschwihr is the only locality in Alsace where the geological substratum is composed solely of marine oolithic limestone. Traditionally, the majority of the Goldert is planted to Gewurztraminer and Muscat. These grape varieties are reputed for producing wines with great finesse, structure and a discreet, however complex, bouquet.
