Description of the wine Pinot Gris Heimbourg 2017

The best global view on the Heimbourg hillside is from the middle of the Brand Grand Cru. From there it is possible to appreciate this beautiful small and steep vineyard (around 8ha in total) that unfold from the south-west to the west. Some sunshine will also reveal the red coloured limestone, where the rocks are exposed on some of the numerous cliff that pop out of the southern side of the vineyard. The Pinot-Gris is a less fragile grape than Riesling and will accept colder temperatures and wind. It is therefore planted on the top part of the vineyard. Yields are naturally small, bringing this demanding grape to extra level of taste and complexity. Despite a great concentration, the wine managed to ferment very well and reached a perfect balance. Heimbourg is producing today very interesting wines with an aromatic intensity and palate structure worth of many top vineyard in Alsace.

Tasting notes

03/2019 : Yellow gold colour. The wine exhibits fruity aromas of peach, apricots, white fruits… that eventually intensify with aeration. Achieving a dry style Pinot-Gris that actually show vineyard character and an aromatic intensity is very difficult. Only a strong vineyard with small yields can achieve this. The Heimbourg vineyard has now proven to be an extremely interesting vineyard for this style of wine. The finish is long, quite tight and the vineyard is able to keep the grape in precise structure. There is no softness here.
