Description of the wine Pinot Blanc 2020
This wine is traditionally made from a blend of Auxerrois (70%) and Pinot-Blanc (30%) originating equally from two vineyards (Rotenberg in Wintzenheim) and the gravelly valley floor of Turckheim. The combination of both red marl limestone and gravelly soil allows us to find the perfect balance. The two grape varieties also complete each other very well. Auxerrois (just lilke Chardonnay) descent from the Pinot-Blanc. It is however slightly more precocious and more aromatic than Pinot-Blanc, which in return usually has a firmer structure and higher acidity. In 2020, the grapes were harvested early in both places and the wines shows the intensity and warmth of the vintage. The fermentation was slower than usual and ended up in a rich and complex wine.
Tasting notes
08/2021 : Pale yellow colour. The nose is still restraint but opens quickly on beautiful ripe white fruit aromas. The palate has an impressive presence and length, good weight, velvety texture and a very enjoyable balance. This wine is richer and more intense than most previous vintages. It represents a superb introduction to this very interesting 2020 vintage.
